We had decaf coffee and cream after a dinner of take-n-bake pizza, and then went to bed about 9:30. I got up to go to the bathroom about 10:30, laid back down and the next thing I knew, my water was breaking at 11:17 pm! I took a shower while my hubby finished packing his hospital bag. We arrived at the hospital about 12:15 AM. We did all of the admission paperwork, my IV was started and the antibiotics and fluids were administered. My contractions were about 3-4 minutes apart and were still crampy-feeling. The nurse checked my cervix about 2 AM and it is 2 cm dilated, 80% effaced, -3 station. I opt to get prepped for the epidural. About 2:30 I got it, and it was so wonderful! I felt warm and numb from my belly button down. The doctor came in about 3:30 to check my cervix and it is 3-4/90/-2. Tiffany took my temperature about 4 AM and I have a fever of 102.5. She gave me some Tylenol. We sleep a little bit off and on. I woke up at 6 AM and threw up all of the pizza. The nurse came in and checked my cervix and I was 9 cm! By 6:30 AM the epidural started wearing off a little bit on the right side, so we call the anesthesiologist to come in to ?dose me up.? I have to breathe through the contractions and they are very painful on the right side. The day shift nurse arrives around 7:15 and checks my cervix and I am 9.5 cm ? almost show time! I am having pressure like I want to push. Dr. Beasley arrived about 7:30 and gave me more epidural medication. It is wonderful! I am completely numb. My cervix was 10 cm dilated and started pushing at 8 AM. The doctor arrived about 8:30 AM and we set up for delivery about 9. I am pushing three times with every contraction using a mirror to direct my effort. Soon we see the top of your head. At 9:43 AM your little head popped out, facing ?sunny side up.? The rest of your body quickly followed. Both of your grandmas were on our cell phones listening. You are taken to the warmer for some deep suctioning since there was meconium in the amniotic fluid. The NICU nurse and the respiratory therapist are there to take care of you. You are a little blue and have a little bit of a slow start. Your apgars are 5 and 7, but soon you let out some squawks and pink up. You are weighed and measured (6 pounds, 15 oz. and 20 inches long). After about 15 minutes you are wrapped up and placed in my arms. The rest, they say, is history!!!
