I went in for an appointment the day before I was due to give birth; March 14th 2008. I was ecstatic. I just knew that I had dilated above 1 cm. I was still at 1 cm. What a disappointment! Oh, well-maybe next week I sighed. Before I got ready to leave, another nurse came in an checked me. She said how about I help you deliver this baby today? Are you kidding me? Great I screamed! She told me to get dressed and go over to labor and delivery. I did just what she said. I was so ready.
The nurses signed me in and prepped me for labor. I knew that it wouldn't go really quick, but I thought it would have been quicker than it was. They preceded to put me on the drip and burst my water. The labor pains grew intense quickly. I asked for an epidural against my pregnancy plan.
After the pain meds, I felt better and tried to get some rest.
I felt something was wrong. The nurses kept coming in too much, I thought. They said don't be alarmed, but your baby's heartbeat keeps dropping. They said that they would keep a close eye on it.
It didn't get better. As a matter of fact it slowed way down to the point where it stopped and they had to prep me for an emergency Cesarean- section. In amidst all this, my mom was beside herself. Me, I was calm in spite of everything. I knew that GOD would deliver us both. I had prayed when I found out I was pregnant, because I'm prone to miscarriages. I put us both in God's hands and I knew in my heart that he would bring us both through. He did. GOD is good and true to his word. He delivered us both on March 14th at 12:10 A.M. and he has been carrying us both since then.
I was so grateful to the staff for doing an excellent job. I was so ready to go home with my 6lb. 10 oz. son.
What, I said? You have a very high fever. You can't go home and your baby has to stay in the nursery until you get well. What's causing the fever? I asked. We're not sure. Oh, my GOD. Something's seriously wrong with me because they can't even find the cause of my fever!
Tears, anxiety, worry, and depression set in.
Hi. My name is Catherine and I will be one of your nurses while you're here.
She was great! She listened to my worries, she gave me advise and she recited some scriptures from the bible. She said that GOD had led her to me and that I was going to be alright.
After all that GOD had brought me through my faith was beginning to dwindle. I tried everything I could to hold on to it, but it kept slipping. One day, the nurse entered my room and gave me a necklace that she had made for me. It was made out of crosses. She said that when I put it on that I would get well and me and my son would go home the next day. That's exactly what happened. GOD delivered us once again and my faith never again was shaken.
