Quirky Fact:

I was 24 when I became pregnant, my hubby was 25. We were both excited, and surprised. I was told when I was younger, after some medical treatments, that I couldn't have children. Surprise! We found out that I was pregnant on New Year's Eve of 1998. At the time, the gynecologists were on strike in our province, so I had some difficulty finding one to see me. I had a family doctor, but need a OB/GYN. I finally found one, whom I absolutely adored, only to have her transfer to a different province later one. She referred me to another, who wasn't as friendly, but effecient, nonetheless. On our first ultrasound, on St. Patrick's day, we found out that we were having twins. TWINS!!! Wait...was that another one they saw?? OMG!! triplets?? No, only twins! I almost fell off the table! I thought there was a mistake; didn't twins skip a generation?? (My brothers are twins) i thought for sure I was safe!! We knew one was a boy; he showed us what he had, but the other one was stubborn. However, in my heart, I knew it was another boy. The original due date was July 7. A good time, I assumed. because I was carrying twins, I was considered high risk, so I had to take it easy. Everyone gave me advice, do this, do that, don't do this, don't do that. bt I did what i thought was best for my babies. The pregnancy went along without a hitch. However, by May, I ballooned! I was 120 pounds before i was pregnant (I'm 5 foot 8") and to gain 50 pounds...that was hard for me! The babies were doing great, gaining weight remarkably, and so was mom! I was making weekly trips to the hospital to get checked. July came....and went. Still no contractions...nothing. My doctor told me, after one frustrating visit, that they let nature take its course. Well! By August, I could hardly walk! I was swollen, and the babies were passed 6 pounds. I was finally going to be induced!! Alleluia!! On August 6, I was admitted into the hospital and prepped, in case there was complications. None arrived. then the contractions started. Wow! i had prepared myself for the worst, but it seemed like I was too prepared, or maybe lucky. My little guys made their entrance on August 7, 1998, during a heat wave. I weighed in over 210 pounds, which thankfully I lost without much problem. My baby boys each weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces each, with no problems. My birth was spectacular, it was easy, and better yet, natural. My husband was an amazing coach, and is proud of the way we handled it all.
