My labor and delivery nightmare...

My birthing plan consisted of me wanting a epidural and no men allowed in my room. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, this is what happened: I went for my prenatal exam and my doctor decided to strip my membranes (loosen my amniotic sac away from my uterus) to start my contractions. Little did I know, that I would start having them on the drive home from the clinic. I told my husband I think it's time. He then grabed our things and we went to the hospital. While I was in triage, the nurse checked me and told me I was only 3 cm and she wanted me to walk around the hospital for about 45 minutes. So, we did. When i went back to my room, she checked me again. this time i was at a 5 and a half. By then you can probably imagine the pain I was in. I could not lay down in my bed. I was standing and bending over my bed with one leg up and I was rocking back and forth. My husband was great. He was rubbing my back and holding me the whole time. The pain was so much that i turned around and was squatting over my bed and i had my hands on the wall. I remember I felt a "pop" in my tummy and my husband saying,"oh my god, you are bleeding!" He then called for the nurse who came in and said the bleeding was normal and it was from my cervix being irritated from them checking me. I told her to please give me a epidural and she said," you are not in labor." And she walked out. Then I started screaming and crying from all the pain. Then a doctor came in and told me to lie on the bed. She checked me once more and said the baby's head has dropped (hence, the popping sensation i felt). The nurse came back in and said they want me to move to the delivery room. She asked me if I could walk. I told her she's got to be crazy. If I stood up, my baby would fall out. She sighed and called another nurse to come help roll my girnie to the delivery room. When we were going down the hall I let out a loud moan and this nurse looked at me and said,"stop overdramatizing!" I didn't care. It hurt so bad I had to deal with it some how. And moaning and groaning was the only ways I could. When we got to the delivery room, they put me on my other bed. And checked me again and told me to push. I said what about my epidural? The doctor said ,"its too late for that now." And I said, " what about my i.v.? I was possitive for group b strep and was supposed to be injected with medicine to protect my baby. She said its too late for that too. There was also a man in my room. I told my husband to please do something. He told the man (who was a surgeon) to please exit. He did. So, in 4 pushes my baby girl was born. She was jaundiced and eveytime they brought her to my room...she had a iv in a different place. 1st it was in her hand, then her foot, then her head! I complained and they said that nurse would be taken care of. and when i got home the hospital sent me a bouquet of cookies which I refused. I wanted to sue this hospital, but my husband said let it go. So, I did. I will never forget this.
