Quirky Fact:

When we found out we were having a girl—I was all too excited to start looking for a name. I borrowed every baby naming book , checked babycenter a million times a day, and of course, started digging in our family tree. My husband and I argued this topic endlessly and I rallied the woman at work for ideas. For quite a while my daughter's name was Brynn—then Olivia—and I think for a week we called her Ruby. At the end of the day I would rub my belly and say the name outloud and then change my mind—nothing 'felt right' to me.
I guess my frustration was that I felt so much pressure to give her name that would mean something. I wanted my daughter's name to be deep and carry a legacy of family and tradition. I wanted my daughter to be proud of her name and know that it tied her to her roots. But there was my family, my husband's family. We are from two different countries ( My husband is from Canada) and our backgrounds include everything from French Canadian to a great great grandmother on my side from Norway. The possiblities in names were endless.
One day I was in a hurry to pick up my son from daycare and I had had a very stressful day at work. I tured the radio up and an Eminem song came on. I am not by any means an avid hip-hop fan but the music was taking away the stress of the day and I started to nod my head and sing a long. A line about his daughter hit something in my mind. It was funny—when I took all the stress out of naming my daughter and stopped trying to make it so perfect it came to me. What did we name our daughter? Haleigh Jayne. Haleigh because I thought it was pretty and Jayne after my late aunt. So when my daughter asks me one day how I found her name, I guess I'll tell her that I was driving across a bridge listening to some Eminem - to which she'll ask, "who's that? " or I'll tell her that I heard a beautiful name and I just 'felt it'.
