Mom Allegedly Lets 9-Year-Old Drive to McDonald's

A mother is accused of letting a 9-year-old drive to a McDonald's...what?
by Ryan Karpusiewicz on October 13, 2011

According to a NBC9 News in Colorado, a mom has been accused of allegedly letting her 9-year old daughter drive to McDonald's.

Grand Junction police say that 36-year-old Lori Rogers let her 9-year-old daughter drive miles across town, reportedly stopping at a McDonald's and even going through the drive-thru. Bizarre? We thought so. But it gets worse.

Apparently, Rogers' 10-month-old baby was also in the backseat.

The thought process is baffling to us. But to the 9-year-old driving? Well, things must be a lot simpler.

In the daughter's estimation, as she told one witness, she was "simply learning how to drive."

In any case, when police showed up to the McDonald's they saw that Rogers had moved back to the front seat. It was determined that she was suffering from some sort of mental or physical disorder, and the appropriate actions were then taken to ensure she was taken care of.

Is this a big deal, that a child not even a teenager was supposedly being taught to drive? Let us know your thoughts in a comment!

Ms.Rogers OBVIOUSLY was having a "mental or physical disorder". She is nutzo...Letting a 9 year old drive across town, with her 10 month old in the back seat. That warrants some serious jail time. Her decision ENDANGERED many innocent drivers /pedestrians,not to mention her 10 month old baby ,her 9 year old and herself. CHeck her into the psych ward of the local jail, pronto. And take away her drivers license, her car and put her kids in PROTECTIVE custodyt ASAP..

Perhaps whoever approves such behavior needs to have major surgery performed by a 9 year old. Any volunteers???

There is a difference in teaching to drive and driving on the open roads. Do I think it's wrong to teach a younger child to drive, No, as long as the child is big enough and responsable enough. Do I think it's wrong to let a young child on the open road, YES. Unless it was an emergency and that child was trying to get the parent to the hospital. But this is so not suprising to hear about. Too many parents are letting their young children(not even big enough to reach the peddles properly) drive to stupid places like...McD's, liquor stores, being designated drivers, etc. Come on people, use common sense. And stay sober when you have children.

I'm from the country. All seven year olds drive tractors and trucks and all kinds of motored vehicles. I let my fourteen year old drive across town to teach him how to drive. Apparently the 9-year old did well.
